LOL...I owned a Bassett Hound for 16 yrs of my life, kindergarden thru my junior year of college....so I can honestly say you caught the expression perfectly.

On the technical side though, don't be afraid to push your darks...overall it comes across a little flat, casting some shadows would help establish form.
